Already for the third time Mayor Josef Heyes broke the ground in the Walzwerkstraße. GapCon delivers rollers for the paper industry worldwide. 45 are employed there.

WILLICH "The spade doesn’t have a chance to get rusty with you”; stated Mayor Josef Heyes. An official cycling tour had again taken him to the Walzwerkstraße to Becker steelworks. There the company GapCon already sent invitations to the third ground breaking ceremony. This time it was an approximately 1110 square metre plant complex as the global supplier for calendars and special rolls needed by the paper industry to fulfil the ever increasing orders.

With spring blooms

Susanne Marky and Claudia Schröder of the now 45 person GapCon-Team gave the two directors Wolfgang Wiertz and Wolfgang Mark immaculate blue wellingtons before the two accompanied Heyes and the Vice Chairman of the Real Estate Association, Bernd-Dieter Röhrscheid, to conduct the symbolic act.

For this purpose, the Mayor brought several spring flowers that were planted in the damp lawn next to the administration complex. The company was first founded in 2006 with four assemblers and two admin employees. About one year ago, the company had already grown to 35 employees. To date ten more have joined them, which says a lot about the rapid boom.

"Above all, the Asian market is becoming increasing interesting for us"; Wolfgang Mark calculated the turnover for 2010 to be approximately 15 million Euros. In the year before that, it was approx. 10.5 million Euros. It was only in December 2010, when GapCon started operating from the neighbouring new two storey administration building that the employees moved from Büderich to the new Willich headquarters.

Compliment

For the support received to date, Wolfgang Wiertz thanks the main shareholder, the company Irle-Deuz GmbH, the banks, suppliers, the Willicher economic developers and naturally the customers. "You are an innovative company and guarantee high quality", was the compliment from the Mayor of Willich. "In May the approx. eleven metre building will be completed", said Johannes Blum from the shareholder company Althoff carrying out the contract.

One shall probably meet him and his convey again in the Walzwerkstraße in mid-2012. The GapCon directors plan the construction of a third warehouse. “The signature on a purchase agreement for a neighbouring property with area of approx. 4000 square metres for expansion is imminent”, announced Wolfgang Wietz. This will already be the fourth ground breaking ceremony. The Mayor is ready.
